Its flowers contain essential oils, saponins, flavonoids, vitamin C, calcium, carotenes (precursors of vitamin A), and significant amounts of silicon. The combination of silicon and its protective mucilage makes calendula one of the most important herbs for the treatment of skin conditions that require tissue regeneration. Additionally, the pectins contained in its leaves make it a moisturizing agent.
